SAPEC Project takes on corporate social responsibility activity in Liberia

The IITA postharvest specialist of the SAPEC project is currently conducting a study in collaboration with the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI), to ascertain the suitability of the IITA introduced cassava varieties to produce gari and fufu powder in Liberia.

Two new volumes about sustainable cultivation of grain legumes published by Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing are now off the press.

IITA commences confined field trials of transgenic cassava

IITA was recently granted a permit to carry out confined field trials (CFT) on genetically modified cassava (AMY3 RNAi transgenic lines). This research, carried out in collaboration with ETHZ Plant Biotechnology Lab in Zurich, aims to reduce starch breakdown in storage roots of cassava after pruning the shoots, prior to harvest of the crop.

ACAI harvests Cassava Intercropped with Sweet potato trials

Four months after planting 102 trials for the Cassava Intercropped with Sweet Potato (CIS) project in the Islands of Unguja and Pemba, Zanzibar in the United Republic of Tanzania, ACAI and implementing partners in Zanzibar, ZARI, has begun harvesting potatoes from the trial fields.
