Visiting nematologist receives Schroth Faces of the Future Award
Kanan Saikai, a visiting scholar at IITA-Nairobi from the Japan Society for Promotion of Science, working on nematodes under the supervision of Danny Coyne, has received the Schroth Faces of the Future Award 2021.
The award is given to early-career scientists to present their research and speculate on the future directions of their discipline. The award presentation at the next Schroth Faces of the Future Symposium will take place during the next American Phytopathological Society (APS) Annual Meeting. The theme of Plant Health 2021 is “Seismic Shifts in Disease Risk.”
Saikai, one of four early-career nominees, will receive financial support to attend Plant Health 2021 virtually from 2 to 6 August 2021.
“I am honored to receive such an award and am looking forward to presenting the work at Plant Health 2021,” Saikai said.
Saikai has been researching nematode management in coffee using biological treatments and is also engaged in other nematology-related activities.
Milt and Nancy Schroth generously provided the funding for this award through the American Phytopathological Society (APS) Foundation.
